Technical Update
The Saloon Stock Car Association has recently concerned itself with three important issues regarding Rules & Regulations, and has reached the following decision.
Rule 1. CARS & BODIES
It has been noted that some cars have a bonnet bulge over camshaft guard. This contravenes the silhouette rule, and drivers are given early notification that the Rules will be re-written for 2009 to expressly outlaw this type of modification.
Rule 2. ENGINES
Manifolds
Clarification has been sought about the Simpson exhaust manifolds which have started to appear.
These are NOT Sierra Style exhausts.
These do NOT resemble the illustration in the rulebook.
Hence, they are not considered legal to the current rules, and drivers should remove them immediately or risk failing at scrutineering. Further work will be done on this rule, but it is highly likely that the rules will be amended for 2009, to disallow the fabrication of these parts.
Rule 6. BUMPERS
Clarification has been sought about the method of measuring the rear bumper.
The rear bumper must measure no more than 24" and no less than 15", when measured from the ground to the centre of the lower rail of the bumper, AT ANY POINT ON THE LOWER RAIL - be it driver's side, the middle of the car, or the passenger side.
The following amendments were made in July 2008
Amendment Rule 16: Addition to current rule
All aluminium fuel tanks that are secured using a bracket(s) bolted down to the steel work, must also be secured with two 50mm wide metal straps over the tank in the opposite direction to the original fixing i.e. if the original bracket is bolted side to side, the secondary brackets need to go from front to back or vice versa.
Amendment Rule 9: Clarification on current rule
"the Granada diff casing is permitted using 3.36, 3.64, 3.91, 4.09, 4.27. "
