2009 Irish Championship

Andrew Stewart lifted the Irish title for the first after a dominant performance at Ballymena Raceway on September 18th. The sixteen car grid for the McMillan Travel sponsored championship race was formed on the basis of points scored in the province throughout the season and paired Stewart with Stuart McCammon on the front row. Stewart grabbed the lead immediately at the green flag and despite a couple of caution periods managed to control the twenty-five lap race throughout. McCammon and Ross Houston followed the new champion home, while defending champion Winston Weir's reign ended when he was disqualified for fencing William Taggart under yellow flag conditions. During the post race examinations the car of McCammon was found to be underweight which resulted in his exclusion from the official result. This promoted Houston to runner-up and Ronnie White to third, with the finishers completed by Ryan Wright, William Ogilby and Colin Jones.
